Black spots on the bottom of tomatoes?

    drlisa

My beefsteak tomatoes are developing a black indented rash on their bottom ends. What is causing it and what should I do to remedy the problem?

Hi drlisa, Sounds like it may be a case of Blossom End Rot (BER) but without a few closeup photos I cannot say for sure. BER is typically caused by a calcium deficiency. Unfortunately, there are several things you can be doing (or not doing) that can cause your plants to be calcium deficient. The most common of these is a combo of not completely replacing your nutrient solution on a regular basis (every 30-60 day) and/or not keeping your nutrient solution pH in the proper 5.5 to 6.0 range.
